Follow the evidence behind the remembered work.
This library begins with recurring industrial materials, equipment and tasks, then preserves the authoritative sources supporting each historical relationship. Workplace-specific product and manufacturer claims remain separate until evidence supports them.
First research families
Gaskets
Flange gaskets, sheet gasket material, hand-cut gaskets, equipment casing gaskets
Packing
Braided or rope-like packing around pump shafts or valve stems
Pipe & Boiler Insulation
White/chalky pipe covering, block insulation, blankets, insulating cement, corrugated-looking paper, canvas-covered insulation
Millboard & Electrical Paper
Board-like heat shielding, heavy paper, electrical insulation or thermal barriers
Pumps
Boiler-feed, condensate, process, water or other industrial pumps
Valves
Steam, hot-water, process, gate, globe or other valves
Boilers & Furnaces
Boiler rooms, powerhouse equipment, furnace areas, refractory or insulation-covered equipment
Friction Materials
Brake, clutch or fleet-maintenance work
Refractory & Insulating Cements
High-temperature cement, furnace and boiler repair paths.
Roofing, Siding & Cement Products
Shingles, cement sheet/pipe, roofing felt and coatings.
Joint Compounds, Plasters & Coatings
Mixing, sanding, renovation and demolition histories.
Electrical Arc & Heat-Resistant Materials
Arc chutes, electrical paper, millboard and heat shields.

A manufacturer name becomes useful only when it is tied to the right object, place and time. The first public manufacturer records use primary asbestos-trust sources and deliberately stop short of workplace-specific exposure conclusions.
Why this matters
Task before label
A person may remember scraping a flange or repacking a valve without remembering a brand. The task can be the better first clue.
Component before manufacturer
Equipment manufacturer, component manufacturer and replacement supplier can be different. We keep those relationships separate.
Time before conclusion
Formulations, suppliers and equipment change. Approximate years belong near the beginning of the investigation.
