What happened at the Watkins Glen salt works
The Watkins Glen operation is a solution-mining and evaporated-salt complex. Historical and current records describe fresh water being injected into deep rock-salt beds, saturated brine returning to the surface, and an evaporation plant boiling the brine so salt crystals can be separated, dried, screened and packaged.
Those process details can unlock useful memories: brine wells, pump houses, tanks, vacuum pans, steam, evaporators, centrifuges, dryers, laboratories, packaging lines and maintenance areas may be more familiar to a former worker than the corporate name alone.
