For Referring Attorneys

When mesothelioma appears outside your usual practice, the first call can still be simple

H&S can assist with the asbestos and mesothelioma piece: reconstructing exposure history, organizing source research, evaluating legal pathways and discussing whether collaboration or referral makes sense for the client.

Start with what the client remembers

Workplaces, trades, dates, equipment, contractors, coworkers, military service, household history and product memories can all become useful starting points.

Use the research already built

H&S maintains source-led New York workplace research, occupational guides, product/equipment resources, bankruptcy-trust research and exposure-reconstruction tools.

Discuss the relationship directly

Consultation, referral or co-counsel arrangements are case-specific and begin only after appropriate conflict, client and professional-responsibility review.

Keep the client informed

Any division of fees or shared responsibility must comply with applicable professional rules and client-consent requirements. Nothing on this page creates a referral or fee agreement.

Professional Responsibility

For New York matters, Rule 1.5(g) of the New York Rules of Professional Conduct addresses divisions of fees between lawyers in different firms, including client agreement and written confirmation requirements. Any actual arrangement must be evaluated for the specific matter and jurisdictions involved.
