Armstrong Contracting and ACandS: Crews, Jobs and Products

Separate the contractor who installed insulation from the company that made the material.

A key distinction

Armstrong’s contracting operations supplied and installed insulation from other manufacturers as well as certain Armstrong products. A jobsite reference to an Armstrong crew is not by itself proof that Armstrong manufactured the insulation installed.

Company transitions

The contracting business moved into Armstrong Contracting and Supply Corporation in 1958; it was sold in 1969. The ACandS name may appear in later work records and legal documents.

Records worth remembering

A subcontractor name on a badge, a crew foreman, a purchase order, boiler maintenance, a pipe-insulation specification or a construction phase can all help reconstruct the work.

Original historical records

Read the underlying product responses, patents, government records and court decisions with dates and source types clearly identified.
